If you’ve ever felt like you needed some peace and quiet, I know where you should go.
There’s a place where the land is covered in thick blankets of white snow and there’s no sound in the air, no rush hour, no stress about looking your best.
You’ll be covered in layer upon layer of your warmest clothes and all anyone will be able to see of you will be your eyes and nose.
The chill of minus 30 degrees Celsius is shocking but afterwards, secured indoors in warmth, you’ll feel refreshed.
The cold will make you feel like you need to eat something warm or maybe have a hot cup of tea, just to hold it in your hands, while you reflect on how slowly you moved that day, and how much you liked this new pace.
It’ll get dark early in the afternoon and you’ll feel disoriented, adding to the exotic feel of being somewhere arctic.
You know that I’m talking about winter in Finnish Lapland, right?
The photos are from my trip to Kittilä in January, 2014.

I absolutely love this but I am not sure how the whippets would cope in these temperatures! :o)

Hahah, you are very right! They would need special winter “coats” of their own! (Dogs over here actually are dressed in warm dog-clothes sometimes, especially the little ones)

It’s a beautiful white world out there. The cold can be disorienting indeed.Coming from a Tropical country & a place that has a soaring 53 deg C in heat ,a sight of snow land like this is refreshing. Like an ice cream in the middle of the desert.
You left me already dreaming of snow.

😀 As my blog’s title suggests, I prefer traveling to warm places, too. But Lapland was special. I’ve only been there once during winter.

Wow! Awesome picture 😉 I am thinking of going north during the winter vacation 🙂 Thanks for giving me a recommendation. Is it possible to go there without a car?

Thanks! You don’t really need a car in Kittilä, it’s a small ski village and there are tour operators there. But if you want to see other places, I’m sure you can rent one. Though driving in remote places in the winter with ice, snow and the darkness might not be the best idea if you haven’t done it before.

Thanks a lot for the info 🙂 If i were there I think I would join a tour. Getting disorientated, especially when the surrounding temperature is -35 Grad, might be a catastrophe 🙂

Hope you get to visit the North one day! (Ps. In the summer, you could rent a car!)

Thanks! Same here! 😊 Except when it’s really dark during winter, snow makes it look brighter

And so does your nick the snow melts somewhere mean that you are looking for sun or is it a way of say that you are optmistic? Greetings from Italy

Both, but mostly that I dream of being somewhere warm, without snow. While the winters here last 8 months, I’m always thinking that in other places the snow has already melted and warmer days have arrived. The grass is greener elsewhere! That doesn’t sound optimistic, but it also means that I could go somewhere else… on a trip 😊

Thank you, I appreciate your answer and you make me remembering a dear friend of mine, living in Vaasa, Finland! I visited her in june 1990, without snow, and I loved that country but I think that in winter is somethimg different!
Winter is too long in Italy too. I love sun 🙂

Great photos and post as always 🙂
One of the few things I regret not doing was visiting Finnish lapland during my 2.5 years of stay in Kokkola, Finland. Because I always thought there’d be a better timing. Now it’s simply too expensive for me to visit 😦 Also not going ice swimming at my Finnish lecturer’s invitation because I was too lazy, ha ha.

I’ve never been ice swimming! Some people love it though (crazy)! 😄 Who knows, maybe one day you’ll visit Lapland. But that’s how it is when you’re abroad, never enough time to visit every place! I stayed in France for about 2,5-3 years and I never visited a vineyard though I always wanted to see one! Thanks for stopping by and commenting, again! 😊

I did know what you were talking about because I so admired your Lapland photos before! That pinkish blue light on the snow is just magical.

I know what you are taking about—and I have even been camping out in -30 degrees. It’s cold, and it makes you enjoy the heart even more afterwards. Great post!

Thank you! Over here, young men doing their military service have to camp outdoors in the winter. Brrr!! Luckily, as a woman, I never had to do that!!

Gorgeous pics. Snowy landscapes are beautiful, but I’d much rather spend my time in the sun. 😀

Me too, if I had a choice! Life doesn’t always go as you’d planned… All you can do is try to make the most if it! ☺️

I live in the sub-tropics and have only visited the snow country a few times in my life. What impressed me most, beyond the beauty, was the silence.

Thanks! It’s warm inside so even of you get cold easily, you get to warm up afterwards 😊 (I’m the type of person who’s always cold!)
