In the beginning of February, I’ll have been blogging for six years! Wow! I wonder how it’ll feel to reach 10.
Maybe I should stop before then?
I’ve briefly tried some other platforms for writing and getting feedback, interaction, but they didn’t sweep me off my feet. So I’m still here, because of the other bloggers I’ve gotten to know. You. Thank you for all the chats!
I browsed through my old blog photos and some of the travel pics from my first years seem so old now. When I wrote about them, those trips still felt fresh.
I’ve gathered some of those old blog pics in this post. There have been over 600 posts so far!! 20 000 comments (half of them are my responses). Comments and engagement are what drive me as a blogger.
This past year, I seemed to have posted a lot of photos of plants! Trees, in particular. All iPhone shots, since I broke my camera a few years ago and still haven’t gotten a new one.
During the past blogging year, I grew fond of the (free) Photoshop Express app and especially its HDR filters. Then, I started to apply full clarity and sharpening to every photo, and liked the result. In tree photos, the leaves and branches looked hyperrealistic with that edit, and I liked the effect. After editing, I uploaded the pics to WP on my phone, making my workflow faster than it had previously been when I used to edit photos on my laptop. But I still prefer to type the words in my posts on my Macbook.
For my blog’s birthday, I have a custom of publishing a gallery consisting of selected photos from each blogging month the past year:
In case you haven’t known me for that many years yet, I’ll drop links to some of my all-time favourite posts:
Once Upon a Time in Paris
Cute House in the Shade
The Art of Hello
Bananas!
Now, what do you think: is blogging a dying art? I’d be happy to hear if you are active on another writing or photography platform (not Instagram) which has similar levels of discussion, community and loyalty as WordPress does.
And for the next blogging year? I dream of writing more, but creativity can’t be forced. Words come to life when they want to.
Take care!

Happy blogaversary!
I don’t think blogging is a dying art. I think the WP community is great. I love the lack of drama in my feed if you compare it to e.g. YouTube, Tumblr. I don’t write on other fora. I’ve got my blog for seven years now and still love it. Way back when, there was Livejournal, but that’s died out completely. People have moved to Twitter, Tumblr, IG etc.
I’d say, stick around? 😉

Lack of drama – I agree! I never was able to muster enthusiasm for all the other platforms out there. I’m happy I happened to give WordPress a go. I barely even knew what it was when I first signed up, on a whim!

I tried most platforms but find myself only using Instagram on a daily basis. FB and Whatsapp are mostly to keep up with (international) friends.
I hear ya! I knew about several blogging platforms but am glad I ended up on WordPress 😉

Same here! I tried Blogger (blogspot) brielfy for a digital marketing course I was taking, and it was very clumsy and simple. And no community. Happy with my choice!

Oh I’ve heard about Blogger. Never used it myself. The community here at WP is pretty cool, if I say so myself 😉
Happy blogging and onto the next six years? 🙂

Bon anniversaire Lumi. I hope all is well with you. I realize I haven’t not visited you as much as I would have. End of year and beginning of the new one have been a bit complicated. But it should improve soon.
A bientôt

Hope you’re doing well (and getting vaccinated soon)! Here, quite a lot going on, too. I like how the French use ”complicated” in a very broad sense – it applies so well right now. Take care!

No idea when we will be. Daughter #1, the MD just had her second shot today. Her husband probably this week. Since daughter #2 caught Covid 2 weeks ago, we will have a big family reunion on Sunday. Yeah…
“Ah ouais, là c’est compliqué, hein… pfff.”
(Generally means no can do…)🤣

”C’est pas possible”, I remember hearing from customer service agents everywhere when I lived in Paris. Good times. (Only half sarcastic, they were).
How is your daughter doing? Better apparently, since you are having a fanily reunion. We actually have Covid too, right now, our family 🥺

Sarcastic is a good definition of some French. I can be very sarcastic… 😉
She’s better, thank you. When you say your family, you mean you and your husband? Zut. How are you feeling? Don’t hesitate to get medical attention at the slightest doubt. Recover soon.

Yeah us adults and also the kids… 11th day now. Merci

The kids caught it too? Mild I guess. 11 days is good. I hope it’s been not too harsh on you parents.

A wild mix of symptoms and it seems to go on forever…

Did you lose sense of smell? Daughter #1 did. But again, as time goes by, I would say you should be all better next week. My very best wishes. Meilleurs voeux de récupération…

Sense of smell gone, yes. I really hope this’ll end next week…

It may take a bit more. My youngest daughter still hasn’t recovered it. Patience.

PS. Nothing is possible any more in France. I spent the last year dealing with French red tape. Désespérant… Everything takes months.

Congratulations for hanging in there 6 years. That’s quite an achievement. I’ve only been at it for a little over a year, and am already seeing some of the bloggers who started with me drop off. I’m intrigued by the photoshop express AP you mentioned. I’ll check that out. Thanks for mentioning it. Have a good day!

Happy Blogoversary!! Lovely selection of photos. I haven’t taken many photographs recently, but I’m hoping to remedy that. I am on Medium but haven’t written there yet so I can’t say if the interaction levels are the same.

Thanks Amy! I have to check out Medium, hadn’t heard of it before! My photography is pretty seasonal nowadays too. Take care!!
