Another fortnight has flown by and it’s my turn to host Friendly Friday again.
I had taken the day off from work today, thinking I’d have a nice day in the sun, go swimming at the (always crowded) public pool perhaps, and sit outside leisurely gathering my thoughts.
Unsurprisingly, the morning started with chilly rain. Whenever a day like this is planned ahead, the weather gods like to play a prank or two, I’ve noticed.
So I headed over to a café instead, one that I visited for the first time a couple of weeks ago when I met up with another blogger, Suvi. A pleasant meet-up and a beautiful jugend (art nouveau) style café.
Snuggled in a cozy leather armchair, back in a dark corner of the large hall that served as the seating area, I had a nice view of the place. There was a fresco above me and some delicate details carved in stone, there were arches and private little nooks.
Once again, I marveled at local architecture and design. The more I notice them all around me here in downtown Helsinki, the more I’ve come to love them. The details tell a story of their era.
For this week’s Friendly Friday photo challenge, the theme is Design.
I hope you have fun with it – please join in!

Ps. As soon as I had decided not to go swimming, the sun came out again.

Aaah how cool that you went back to the café! If you’re into visiting new cafés now, I suggest you go to Relove next 🙂 My post is also about a café, check it out here: http://mrssuvi.com/2019/06/02/coffee-in-gdansk/

The cafe looks so pretty! A place to admire the interiors while enjoying the hot drink 🙂 I heard that the last few days were very sunny and pleasant in Finland, hope you’ve been enjoying, Snow 🙂 ❤

Looks like a lovely place that café. Makes you wonder, how in those days, when there was no such easy communication, art trends and styles traveled the world.

I’ve often wondered about the same thing. I guess places like Paris, where people gathered (artists, probably scientists too) were even more important then inspiration

Paris was very creative at one time. Not much any more I’m afraid. But still a wonderful place to be. Leaving in 3 weeks! 🙂
And yes, the connection between artists at the beginning of the 20th century was incredible.
Scientists too. Think Einstein, Bohr, de Broglie and many others. They wrote a lot to each other. Einstein said he would have written the general theory of relativity without de Broglie’s work.
I wonder whether our blogging, posts, and comments are a renewal of those old letters?

On a less brainy level, yes. 😊 Penpals of our age. Only a certain personality type is interested in this sort of thing, I’d say

Yes. You’re most certainly right. When I think of all the great people I’m in contact with, they’re all over the world. Many have traveled extensively. I think most have talent and curiosity. Curiosity beyond what happens on their doorstep, which you will agree many people stop there. Hyvästi…

Yes, I’ve always wondered about people who aren’t curious… A plus!

I remember a post of yours that rang a bell, where people around you, at the office were not the least bit curious about your travels. Happened to me a lot in France. 🙂 After a while, I stopped telling.

Definitely the same with me. And ”where are you from” is a tough question becaude once I start answering, it turns out they didn’t want to know after all. But if I don’t answer, I’m not really telling it how it is

Yes, definitely! It doesn’t really matter where you’re from or what you do for a living, how old you are etc. People from all around. And many have mixed backgrounds 😊

Yep. It is very pleasant. And people are very… courteous (not as in Twitter). If they disagree they just “nod” and say nothing. I’ve only had 2 unwanted experiences.

I haven’t had many unwanted experiences either, during my 4 years of blogging. How long have you been blogging, by the way?

About the same time, I think. 2014? But I didn’t really start posting in earnest until 2015.
