A Treasure Impossibly Sweet

Far, far away, in a land covered with snow

In the very long winters, nothing much would grow

Not one fruit or berry out of their season

Yet for despair, there hardly was reason

For carefully stowed in a cold treasure chest

Lie a handful of strawberries, picked at their best

And if you had the chance to take a bite

Or furtively sneak in there, as you might

You would enjoy a taste impossibly sweet

A surprisingly summery, energizing treat

Drop three strawberries into a large porridge bowl

And you will have no other thought nor goal

Than to swirl and swirl, again, one more time

Until a pink color appears, a color so fine

Take this pink porridge and your cuddliest sweater

Make yourself comfy, you’ll soon feel better

Like the beautiful strawberry half thawed that you ate

You’ll remember that spring’s coming, you’ll just have to wait

My god I love this! You really have a beautiful talent with words, Snow 🙂 ❤ I had a similar experience with lychee recently – they're one of my favorite fruits and I was elated when I saw them at the supermarket.. all the way from Madagascar! Imagine the journey they made from that island all the way to cold and gray Lodz. One bite of lychee and all the childhood memories from home came rushing to my mind. They weren't quite as juicy as I'd have liked but still tasty!
I love the photo too! Did you duplicate a single photo?
I am waiting for spring too and I've noticed the days are getting longer 😀

Aah, lovely childhood memories, Pooja! Happy to have helped them surface 🙂 My “childhood memory” fruit is passionfruit. I love them! And they are one of the rare fruits that you can get over here that taste pretty good despite their long voyage. We had some growing at my childhood home in Australia and I still remember what the vine looked like.
I actually do sometimes imagine the long trip imported foods make!!! It’s kind of unreal when you think of it. When eaten, they vanish in seconds, after all that hard work growing and transporting them!
Lychees are good too, but I didn’t have my first one until I lived in France – so lychees always remind me of my French days! ❤
I edited the photo with my new Photoshop Express mobile app, it was a snowy picture with a building and some trees and then it ended up like this! 🙂
Yay for spring! Still no signs of it here, we just got heaps of snow last night. But it's a good sign that your days are getting longer! Maybe ours will soon, too!! 🙂
Thanks dear for stopping by!

I think I can completely relate to this poem……. Every single morning!!!! Specially now that it’s sooooo cold outside…..
And mow you make me wonder… Will I find porridge and blueberries in Finland in late march?? Hahaha 😛
Have a nice week, Snow!!
