[Modern Fairytale continued…]
One day, out of the blue, she met a little boy…
He wanted to be a sailor when he grew up…
He promised he’d show her the whole wide world…
And they’d find a nice nook…
With monkeys and mango trees…
Where they’d settle down…
While always staying young at heart…
But somewhere along the way, he forgot his promise…
Never learned to sail…
They settled down in their urban castle…
And they grew old comfortably, never lacking a thing.
Is it a happy ending or not? That’s for you to decide.

Some beautiful photos. I particularly like the harbour with the sunset.

❤ It's beautiful. Poignant and full of longing. Don't know about the happy ending or not but that urban castle is quite funky. 🙂 And sailing is overrated. Things fall overboard. 😀

Hahah! Things fall overboard… true, true! Sailor or not, life is short and sometimes its plot can be told in only a few photos and sentences. Is that good or bad? It depends on the person.

I would say a middle-end 😉
In their dreams they can imagine the wide world, and the connect to internet to download the wonderful photos you took for them 😜😍
Happy Saturday!

Happy weekend Sid! The sun is finally shining over here! 💕And over there too, I assume?

That’s the way of life, right? – hard to say if it’s happy or sad – it just IS. I think we all end up taking paths that we didn’t expect or even necessarily want, but it’s up to us to make them work, to be happy even if life doesn’t proceed along the path we envisioned!

That’s exactly what I thought: it’s life. It’s both happy and sad, and everything in between. Maybe dreams, promises and plans made at a young age don’t matter, maybe they do. Whatever the answer, better learn to go with the flow and be happy in the moment! Thanks, Lexi, for reading and sharing your thoughts! 💕

I can’t say that it’s a happy ending but I think it’s the normal/ordinary ending of most marriages/relationships. If it was up to me I would certainly go for a more adventurous approach towards life. I’m a bit of an idealist, but even an idealist has to obey the rules and learn to cope with the world with a sense of rationality. 😊

You phrased your thoughts so beautifully, Isabelle. Thanks for commenting! And yes, even idealists must obey and cope… I am one too.
This kind of thing is probably what happens to many of us. We all have big dreams when we are little, no? As we grow, our dreams fade, and are replaced by practicality and new things we treasure. The young dreamer in us is still there though, and still remembers those plans sometimes… I’m a “we only live once, let’s make the most of it” type of person, but sometimes I have to take other people into consideration and it’s not as simple anymore…

My life motto is very much like yours – Live the life to the fullest. I guess that’s why I distance myself from the routines at least once a year. A time-out. The feeling of absolute freedom is very liberating and much needed. 😊

This is beautiful ~ much to think about, and while me the ever-lasting optimist would have to fully agree this is a happy ending (they lived their lives as they wished), I do pause to wonder what happened to their dreams? Fantastic photos to accompany this philosophical piece, I really like it.

Thanks so much, Randall! We don’t really know if both of them forgot about their dreams or not… but I guess they were happy enough to stay together, in that little fort of theirs 🙂 I do like your optimism and the thought that they indeed did live happily ever after.

Wow a great story to go along with the amazing photos! I think it’s still a happy ending 🙂 Most children have grandeur ambitions when growing up, but as we grow older, we rarely achieve all those things that we once dreamed of. Not to sound pessimistic, but I don’t think it’s always a bad thing. The most important thing is that they are still together, settled and happy 🙂

Thanks Pooja! That’s how it goes, and probably how it’s supposed to go! When we are young, everything seems so obvious, so black and white! Later on, we see things differently. 😁

Yes, true! Although it’s really admirable if someone does achieve their childhood dreams 🙂

Thanks Mercedes! It’s life, yes 😊 I was inspired by the little girl painted on a wall, in part one. Snapped that pic and then the story came 😂

If they stayed young at heart, despite the change in plan, they might still be very happy and content.

Noooooooooo! Of course they are lacking something!!!!!! Maybe the sailor dream, maybe the mango trees, maybe just the spirit… That reminds me of a movie… what was it called…? “Another Year” ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1431181/videoplayer/vi4561177?ref_=tt_ov_vi ) Oh you have to see it… Now that I think about it… Maybe it is a happy ending after all.

Thanks for the movie tip, I looked at the trailer and I haven’t seen it yet 😊 So is the movie the reason you changed your mind about the happy ending? Interesting, might have to watch it! Anyway, it seems the interpretation (happy ending or not) really does depend on the reader! 😄 I’m torn between it being a sad ending or just Life, as it tends to be for most people.

The film is really an “advert” for a content quiet life. It shows one year, the 4 seasons, of an aging couple, and how happy they are with their non-extraordinary life. I loved the slow pace of the film. Very sereine.

It is a tough job to feel content with what we have nowadays! We get fed with too many things which makes it complicated to not wish for more… I plead guilty!
