An earlier post of mine explains more about what we saw at Perito Moreno – but to summarize: watching ice melt off a glacier is definitely memorable!
Have you seen a glacier somewhere? I know many of you have been to Patagonia.

I would never expect to see just tropical-looking flowers right besides a glacier – wow!

Oh we loved Perito Merino Glacier. We went hiking on it! And then stood watching it for hours!

Mesmerising, wasn’t it?! We didn’t go hiking on it, though hubby wanted to (I wasn’t feeling in the mood)

Very interesting. I have hiked glaciers in some European countries, including Greenland, and also in New Zealand. I have watched the ice breaking from Vatnajökull, Iceland, and that was indeed breathtaking. But also sad.

Sad, yes. What was Greenland like??

Green! With blue icebergs floating in the fiords – breathtakingly beautiful with glorius food and air as fresh as …I honestly tried to bottle some of it up and take it with me home…

Wow, sounds interesting! I always thought Greenland had winter all year round, never imagined it could actually be green!

It was an eye opener to me as well!

The Patagonia glaciers are gorgeous! Have also seen one near Jasper, Canada, the sad remnants of one near Zell-am-See, Austria, flown over one in New Zealand, and walked on one in Pakistan.

I always think of Pakistan as a hit country, but that’s right, they have mountains there so why not glaciers! I’d love to visit Canada one day, so much nature to see there! Thanks for your comment!!

Very serious mountains, up in the north. K2, second highest after Everest, is on the Pakistan-Chinese border. Five of the fourteen highest mountains in the world are in Pakistan. I was lucky enough to travel the Karakorum Highway between China and Pakistan back in 2001 and the scenery was just stunning.

Of course, K2! Sounds like an amazing itinerary, off the beaten track!

A stunning photo. I’ve not visited Patagonia but have seen the Jostedal Glacier in Western Norway but I don’t recall it being as impressive as this!

Norway must’ve been beautiful otherwise, though? This glacier was something I really wanted to see in Patagonia, so happy we did!

Hopefully I’ll get to see it one day too! The Norwegian fjords are beautiful, I had a penfriend from just north of Oslo so visited twice when in school holidays. We lost touch for many years then I found her on FB so I went to visit her about four years ago – it was June and there was torrential rain almost all the time! Still, it was good to catch up and meet her family.

Wow. That’s gorgeous. I saw St. Mary’s Glacier in Colorado. 🙂

Colorado, another place to add to my long visit list, maybe? What’s Colorado like otherwise?

The eastern side is plains. At Denver it starts going up in elevation. It’s called the Mile-High city. The Rocky Mountain range is in Colorado. Some elevations are 14,000 feet above sea level. They are beautiful! The higher elevations are snow-capped most months, the rivers are clear, snow skiing is a big thing.
My husband and I lived in the mountains there for a couple years. It’s an amazing place. Rustic. 😊😊

Wow! That is beautiful. There are some in Europe, have skied on one in Switzerland. Never been to South America – would love to go. Just so far away from us… with small kids it’s too long a flight.

I think I have a very similar shot! Like Allison, we hiked on Perito Moreno as well as admiring it from this vantage point, and it was a highlight of our time in that part of Patagonia. Thanks for the memory – great pic!

A highlight it was, for sure! So many tourists there, though! I read an article once about someone who took a photo of Perito Moreno on a boat ride (we did a boat ride nearby, too). The person posted a photo online (or maybe in a competition, can’t remember the details) and then found the same photo somewhere else on the web. She called it out for plagiarism but in the end it turned out that the other photo was taken by someone else on the boat, standing right next to her 😊

If you ever do get the chance Patagonia comes with so many other things to see, too – it’s well worth the trip!

So many wonderful places to go. I read a book about Patagonia to my children when they were little. It was a story about two horses. I’ve always wanted to go there ever since.

One of our favorite glaciers… Listening to it and seeing parts of it fall down… It feels like you’re right there, at the center of the Earth…
