If I were a writer, I’d write a steampunk story about early adventurers hacking their way through the jungle and, brushing away the very last big branches with their machetes, they’d come upon this view. Surprise would spread on their faces, as they observed this futuristic city from afar, before daring to approach…

In reality, this photo was taken from a nature reserve by the shore of the Río de la Plata, close to the upscale Puerto Madero area of Buenos Aires. The reserve resembles a large park, except that it has some jungle and swamp. Our guidebook told us that it’s a popular place for picnics – while we didn’t see any good spots for a picnic, we did see plenty of joggers, bicycle riders, and sunbathers.

We could hear a plethora of birds and insects but didn’t see any animals, except a large lizard crossing the sandy path in front of us. I think it was a tegu. And I saw a beautiful turquoise-black colibri, for the briefest split-second, then it was gone.

I thought it was pretty amazing that the city had kept this part of it so wild and natural. You really could imagine what this area would have been like before it became urbanized. I obviously like to get lost in daydreams, so this place was inspiring, to say the least!

Haha, thanks! 🙂 I do love writing but find it hard to write long, consistent stories these days – I seem to be jumping all over the place! Maybe one day I’ll write that story… I love what you’re doing in your blog! Though your posts are part of a larger book you’re doing, aren’t they?

I know how it is. I get blocked and/or scattered a lot, too. Thanks for the compliments on my blog. Some of the posts are from the full length memoir I’m writing, others are only for the blog.

Maybe I will… A lot of times I feel like my old travel pics act as a sort of private photo/flash fiction prompt, they prompt me to remember small moments which I might otherwise have forgotten. What a great, inspiring photo for the challenge. It works so well! I never would have thought of this angle. If you could hear all those insects, you can bet the place probably had lots of wild animals! Lovely photo.

Thanks for the compliments! 🙂 I think we were probably too loud, though we were trying to be very quiet, and so they all hid… Same thing happened at Iguazu falls, on a jungle trail we took a short hike on. There was supposed to be lots of wildlife, but we didn’t really manage to spot any. If they had wildlife webcams, it would be nice to see what it’s really like if left in peace! Me too! I’m a big fan of parks in cities, gardens and anything green and flowery! I like how sometimes, in parks in large cities, you can see the city’s buildings in the background (kind of like in this photo), there’s such a contrast there!
